Cervical Symptoms :- If you are feeling repeated & regular pain
in the neck, occasionally vertigo, sudden darkness, heaviness in occipital
region of head, pain & heaviness in the neck and shoulders, tingling or
numbness in one or both the hands then it is time to call your doctor. This can
be the early stages of cervical spondylitis. if these spondylitis symptoms are
not treated on the time, inter-vertebral disc and cervical structure can be
damaged.
Pain and stiffness of neck and shoulder area can be the first symptoms
of cervical spondylitis. For neck pain relief, you may have to change your
daily work routine, should correct your sitting posture and needs to do some
neck exercises.
There are several factors which can leads to spondylitis symptoms,
such as history of neck or back injury, long sitting hours, driving for long
hours, lack of exercise, sitting in front of computers for long or some
degenerative diseases of spine. cervical spondylitis may hampers the quality of
life. Modern life style is the one of the major reason for increasing cases of
cervical spondylitis.
After examing you physically, your health physician may ask
several questions regarding your problems and symptoms. If he suspects of
cervical spondylitis, he will suggest you x-ray, CT scan or MRI of your
cervical regione depending on the severity of your symptoms.
Physiotherapy, painkillers and homoeopathy can be helpful for the
person suffering from the Cervical spondylitis. It again depends on the
severity of your symptoms.

10 smartphone injuries that can
easily be avoided
Now that
technology is an integral part of our lives, it only makes sense that
tech-related injuries are on the rise. You can take precautions to avoid eye
strain and carpal tunnel, but some injuries may be inevitable (no matter how
ergonomic your keyboard is).
But
there’s a big difference between a data entry specialist getting carpal tunnel
and you getting a repetitive strain injury in your thumb because you were
playing too much Candy Crush. Here are 10 smartphone injuries that are
completely our fault.
Phone meets face
You’re not the only person who’s gotten a black eye
because you dropped your phone on your face while texting in bed. According to
a study commissioned by the UK-based National Accident Helpline, a whopping 60
percent of 16-24 year olds are in the same boat.
Distracted walking
Walking is, apparently, really hard. So
hard, in fact, that human beings cannot walk and perform other
mentally-challenging tasks, such as texting, simultaneously. According to the this
report from the Governors Highway Safety Association, pedestrian fatalities are
on the rise because we are just that terrible at walking.
Tech neck
As you
get older, your body starts to hurt. You might have back pain, knee pain, or
even neck pain—regular wear and tear can’t be avoided. But by “older,” we’re
talking 55, not 25. If you’re a millennial with neck pain,
cervicalspondylitis it’s probably because you spend too much time hunched over your phone on the toilet.
cervicalspondylitis it’s probably because you spend too much time hunched over your phone on the toilet.
Phone madness
Technology
makes people insane. Saving money on technology makes people even more insane.
In 2013, at least 20 people were injured when a frenzied South Korean mob tried
to grab vouchers for a free LG phone.
Repetitive strain injuries
Think you
can’t get carpal tunnel from your phone? Think again. Repetitive strain
injuries don’t just affect your wrists. Check out this case study of a
29-year-old who ruptured a tendon from playing too much Candy Crush.
Selfie deaths
People
are not the only victims of stupid selfie stunts. Innocent animals, such as
this baby dolphin that has almost certainly never owned a smartphone, are also
at risk. Repeat after me: SELFIES KILL.
Selfies
alone are killing people, so what could possibly go wrong if we introduce a
four-foot-long metal rod into the picture? Nothing, right? Selfie sticks are
also pretty dangerous. In 2015, a person was struck by lightning and killed while
holding a selfie stick (the stick attracted the lightning, naturally), while
another person ended up crashing his car because he was trying to get the
perfect selfie (on a stick). Selfie sticks are even a danger to international
landmarks: Two American tourists were arrested in 2015 for carving their
initials into the Colosseum with a selfie stick.
Tripping over a charging cable
We’re so
dependent on smartphones that we can’t go anywhere without our trusty charging
cable. But charging cables are dangerous, especially when they’re attached to a
$650/emotionally priceless object. How many times have you tripped over your
phone cable and taken the fall because you’d rather hurt yourself than your
phone?
Glass is
actually kind of sharp
We’ve all
suffered from a broken phone screen, but some of us have really suffered.
Let’s just say that the glass on smartphones is still glass, which means it’s
pretty darn sharp when it’s broken. Would you swipe your finger across a broken
window? I don’t think so.
Smartphone stress
Smartphones
are convenient. Too convenient. Thanks to ‘smartphone stress,’ we’re sicker
than ever, because we can’t disconnect from stressful things like work email
and Facebook notifications, and therefore never really have time to recover.

PORTSMOUTH – Living in the age of constant connection by electronic devices has a lot of people literally developing a “pain in the neck.”
This 21st-century problem is being called "text neck," and it is a repetitive strain injury that is caused by hunching over smartphones and tablets.
As people become more tethered to their smartphones, physical therapists are seeing patients come in with muscle pain (cervical spondylitis) in the neck and shoulders and sometimes lower back.
It’s easy for an hour or longer to go by as people are constantly checking their phones or tablets for news, mail and visiting social websites like Facebook.
“The oddly angled neck and rounded shoulders strains the entire upper body,” said David Burchuck, a physical therapist and owner of Lighthouse Physical Therapy in Portsmouth and Dover.
“Looking down and dropping your head forward, changes the natural curvature of your neck,” he said.
Over time, this misalignment can strain muscles and cause wear and tear on the structures of the neck.
According to spine-health.com, a recent study showed that 79 percent of the U.S. population between the ages 18 and 44 have their cell phones with them almost all the time — with only two hours of their waking day spent without their cell phone in hand.
“We see complaints of stiff necks, carpal tunnel syndrome, cervical spine spasms and headaches from muscle tension,” Burchuck said.
And, according to a new calculation published in Surgical Technology International, the weight of the head felt by the spine dramatically increases when flexing the head forward at varying degrees.
An adult head weighs 10 to 12 pounds in the neutral position. As the head tilts forward the forces seen by the neck increases to 27 pounds at 15 degrees; 40 pounds at 30 degrees; 49 pounds at 45 degrees; and 60 pounds at 60 degrees.
Looking down at a smartphone with your chin to your chest can put about 60 pounds of force on your neck. This is roughly the weight of four adult-sized bowling balls.
Burchuck recommends setting the timer on the smartphone for 30 to 40 minutes, and when it goes off to get up and stretch.
“Posture is important and simply arching your neck and upper back backward and pulling your shoulders into alignment under your ears can help alleviate stress and muscle pain,” Burchuck said.
He also recommends doing wrist flexion stretches twice a day for 30 seconds. This can be done by placing your fingers on the desk or table and raising the wrists.
He said using a stylus could avoid texting thumb pain.
“If you can, raise the phone up to eye level,” he said. “You can also put an iPad or tablet on a stand.”
The same goes for your desktop computer. Your monitor screen should be at eye level so your head isn’t perpetually dropping and causing muscle strain. Laptops should also be at eye level.
There are text neck apps for Android smartphones.
Text Neck Indicator lets the user know when the phone is held at an acceptable angle for viewing by a green indicator light in the top corner of the phone.
The HeadUp app lets you know the weight pressure on your neck while using smart phone. This app is designed for the people who want to build a good habit of using a smartphone.
An app for the iPhone for text neck is not available yet.#CervicalSpondylitis #CervicalSondylitisSymptoms

Experts have warned repeatedly that a growing number of children are
developing irreversible problems of backache because of the heavy weight
of school bags.
A lot of school children suffer from back pain and doctors reported a
rise in cases of spinal pain among children. Prof Babita Ghai from the
Department of Anaesthesia, and Consultant, Pain Clinic, PGIMER, stated
this during a press conference to address the issue.
“School bags way heavier than the recommended 10-15 per cent of the body weight of children are contributing to the surge,” she added. “Presently, most of the students of government and private schools carry bags weighing much more than what they ideally should be carrying according to the guidelines,” lamented Sumita Chaudhary, teacher and parent of a 4-year-old. Health experts are of opinion that children risk long-term hazards and permanent damage if they regularly carry more than 15 per cent of their body weight over their shoulders, he added.
Doctors term the problem as a ‘healthcare timebomb’ that will lead to years of misery in later life. “If children are suffering from back pain at such tender age than there is high probability that they will have bear it for the next 60 to 70 years, which leads to an enormous physical and emotional cost,” remarked Dr Vishal Kumar, department of orthopedics, PGIMER. “Carrying heavy bags during growth of children’s skeletons can cause lasting damage,” Dr Vishal remarked. He added that many children carry their bags on one shoulder or on the crook of their elbow, which puts a great strain on the spine.
“Early slip disc, spondylitis, spondylolisthesis, persistent back ache, early degeneration of spine and postural scoliosis are just some of the problems that these children face,” he remarked. Poonam Malhotra, parent of a 6-year-old student, said, “Schools prescribe so many textbooks that bags get so heavy. Add sports equipment, art books, and extra pair of clothes and children are totally overloaded.” Malhotra said her son is suffering from persistent back and neck pain and has been warned by doctors to carry less weight on his shoulders.
Dr Ravi Gupta, professor, department of orthopedics, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, added, “Parents and schools are urged to keep an eye on children’s physical activity. A physically fit child who has strong muscles is much less likely to suffer from back and neck problems due to heavy school bags than a child who is involved in no or insignificant physical activity.” Dr Gupta added that there is an urgent need to have specialised physical activity plans for school children within and outside of schools, wherein children below the age of 16 years are made to participate in regular physical activities like running, sports, swimming and cycling.

Awareness programme
PGIMER is planning to hold awareness programmes so that both, the
students and teachers, know how the school bag weight is actually
creating problems like backache, shoulder pain and headache among
students, informed the public relation officer of the PGI.#SpondinDrops #CervicalSpondylitis #CervicalSpondylitisSymptoms #CervicalSpondylitisTreatment
